Well the calculator on the car is not very accurate. I use an app that has every fill up on all of my vehicles on it. I can go back years :).

I've actually been driving it really carefully the last few drives because of the code it's throwing.
Believe it or not I get worse mpg driving like a granny in my car. If I accelerate up to speed fast, then throw cruise control on, I get 19.2 mpg right now (accurate within .5 mpg by my hand calculations) so I really am leaning away from cams.. 13 mpg does NOT sound fun lol. I'm even starting to think about not getting 4.10's just cuz I do so much highway now.

I get about 16mpg to and from work in medium traffic and construction zones. no traffic = 18mpg highway cruising = 20mpg.

Pure city driving where i don't exceed 45mph causes me to get really low numbers due to my heavy foot.

I know the tune isn't right and i could get better if it wasn't so rich.

So are you still losing tons of low end power Fullmetal?

no offense to bama (or any email tuner), but with any cam a dyno tune should be a must. they can make a safe tune to get you to the dyno, but i would never keep it or beat on it while using an email tune. the email i have asking about tuning for cams states that they only adjust for if it uses the VCT, has limiters or if it has lock outs, that is it. i assume a few dozen data logs later they can get a "decent" tune, but it will never be as good as a dyno tune.

I second what fzr confused is saying. Bama tunes are great for non cammed bolt on cars. For your application fullmetal7777 you need to see a reputable dyno tuner who knows what they are doing. Once you open this can of worms you now how to keep going mod wise if you want it to run decently. Otherwise what is the ****ing point you know?

Well if an email tune will run good (no detonation, not lean, and not overly rich) what's wrong with it? Most Bama tunes put on a dyno have a good afr, and if they're adjusting the timing on the vct correctly, why bother with a dyno tune?

This is what I aim for lol I really don't wanna spend $300 when I don't really care about performance gains, plus it's a total waste whenever I decide to put my headers on

The email I got says the only thing they do is accommodate for the VCT either being fully operating, limited or locked. Not that they tune for anything else. On a minimal bolt on jobber there tunes are fine, but cammed they are leaving a bit on the table, and they have to since they can't see exactly how the car is reacting. Will running there tunes cause a failure? Probably not and I'd even go as far as saying no. Will you get the most power out of that tune? No.

I just want the low end torque/throttle response :(

I would go get it dyno tuned after you install your long tubes and midpipe. Like others have stated you are leaving power (both top end AND low end) on the table. What is the point of modding the car if you don't get the sound and performance from those mods? Now would be the time before you tune it to install a new intake manifold, CM delete plates or CAI before you dyno tune to keep costs down. Do it right once.

Yup. Those cams want to move more air. Get your longtubes in, and a acai if you don't have one. Longtubes made a good torque improvement on my car, I can't image doing anything else, besides maybe gears as a first mod

Still gotta get em ceramic coated, debating a cai too but eh, I've got the sat hood.. That's pretty much it for my performance parts

I had hot rod cams installed about 2 weeks ago with a bama 93 race tune (been running bama for years) and all is well, cars runs like a beast, datalogs look good too. Idles great, sounds awesome! no low end loss that I can feel at all, drives smooth from 1000rpm to 7000rpm and pulls really hard. Should go to a dyno day when the weather gets nicer to see what it's making.

They have tuned for this combo over and over and while it won't be as personal and unique as a dyno tune, it can run great and make power with a "good" email tune.
I want to get a dyno tune one day but I don't feel the need to drop $700 to gain 4-5hp right now. I've never had any major tune issues with bama, when i did have a concern they would always go back and forth on datalogs with me. I beat on the car hard over 6 years, racing almost every month at e-town too. I have a simple setup though not sure if a dyno tune is even worth it, last time I was on a dyno in 2012 the guy told me he doesn't see where any tuning would gain anymore horsepower.

Just an fyi, I hope this is not the case but I had a friend who installed HR cams himself and the car ran, but had weird issues.
He tried a bunch of things, revised tunes etc... in the end it turned out he was off a tooth on the driver side cam.
Car ran like a champ after.

I know for sure this bitch is on right lol thanks for the input tho, hopefully it's just the tune

You can get a really good email tune but you have to run data logs. It takes time but it is the same as a dyno tune when you do it that way. The whole trial and error thing with them just sending revised tunes without data logs is just a hit or miss thing.

Oh, and I guess me 10.3 avg mpg really sucks then, huh?
