I wouldn't be able to remove the chain with the phaser locked in tho wouldn't i? Ill probly reuse all the gaskets then

If he removes all the cam caps and of course deal with the followers that are held on by dust, then he can tip the cam down and remove the chain.
I don't recommend that right now! Better off taking just one bolt off and moving the chain to where it is supposed to be.

I highly suggest taking the front cover off, when you line your cams up you could still be off timing on the crank gear, and that will cancel out anything you did up top anyway.

I'm taking it off either way lol I didn't wanna end up putting the valves back on and have to take them off again to get to the timing cover, better safe the sorry. Ok so all I gotta mess with is the phaser then right? As long as I don't have to take the cam off, I'm good lol

If you're gonna be digging into it anyways I'd just take the whole day and re-time the whole thing so that you KNOW it's right. I'd hate for you to do it the short way and then have to do it all over again the next weekend. The way I see it, when I'm working on the car for a day, that whole day is set aside for that even if it's something small. It sucks to have something planned later and have something minute go wrong and make you either cancel your plans or have to wait ANOTHER week. Get up early, get to work, and you should be driving by the afternoon.

Everything seems to think that there's a possibility if me doing it the short way haha I'm definitely taking the timing cover off, because id bet that if it's timed wrong on top, then it also is by the crank :p

Good man. Looking forward to the results.

I bet the timing is good on the bottom, but pull the cover to be safe because I have been wrong once or twice.

Don't be silly boss, you know as well as we do that you haven't

Lol is it weird that this thread makes me wanna get hot rod cams :shiftyeyes I enjoy working on stuff :p hopefully my install would go easier than this but still it seems like a fun challenge!

No, no, no. I can remember being wrong once last year. Before that, I have to think too far back. But it has happened at least one time before that.

Ok so just to confirm, all I'll need is new camshaft phaser bolts right?

Why are you taking the phasers off? Take the valve covers off, timing cover off, and remove the chain guides/tensioners. No need to remove the phaser bolt.
So it would be too tight to take em off? **** if I can get away with that... **** yeah lol I've got everything off except for the crank pully, so I'll get that done on Wednesday probly.
